The psychiatry makes part of neuroscience which is currently undergoing dynamic development. Although two high-quality textbooks are available now, there have been some changes in the practical outputs of our discipline. The objective of these seminar notes from psychiatry course is to follow these changes, and to provide you with up-to-date information which is necessary to acquire the basic knowledge. These materials will be updated on a regular basis. These notes do not replace recommended textbooks, they should give you a quick overview of the basic topics in psychiatry. They are supposed to be used in your preparation for psychiatry courses and should be helpful during the revision of the explained matter.

Immunology for student of general medicine

It covers basic aspects of theoretical immunology, immunopathological states, immunological aspects of transplantation and immune response to tumours. The text provides an introduction to general principles and rules for prescription of drugs in various pharmaceutical dosage forms with examples of individually prepared preparation prescriptions in dermatology, otorhinolaryngology, surgery, ophthalomology and for treatments of the CNS, respiratory and digestive systems disorders. There is also an introduction to phytopharmacotherapy and a chapter dealing with information on principles and ethics in experimental pharmacology.

Treatment of congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia by a vascularised fibular graft

Five cases of congenital pseudarthrosis of tiba treated by resection and transfer of vascularised fibula from opposite leg are demonstrated. All were healed irrespective of long-term treatment involving in two cases additional spongioplasty. Combined operation team was formed by orthopaedic a plastic surgeons skilled in microsurgery.

Automatic urinalysis

An automated unit for chemical and microscopic examination of urine. This instruction video on automatic biochemical analysers was made in collaboration with the Dept. of Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology of the Faculty Hospital in Brno, the Dept. of Biochemistry, and the Data Processing Centre of the MU Fac. of Medicine in Brno. It is provided with a spoken commentary which, on the one hand, gives a static description of the individual components of the analyser and, on the other, accompanies individual demonstrations of its function. The video also contains a description and a demonstration of the functioning of the automated urine laboratory (automated unit for chemical and microscopic examination of urine iQ200).

Random access analyser (HITACHI 917)

The automatic biochemical analyser Hitachi 917 is a prototype of high-capacity selective analyser. It has a capacity of 800 photometric tests per hour and the possibility of selective choice out of a range of fifty biochemical tests. This involves spectrophotometric methods that utilise measurements of absorbance of the reaction mixture in a cuvette at various wavelengths. A part of the analyser is an ion-selective electrode module for the determination of sodium, potassium, and chlorides. The duration of the video is 17 min.
